Complex numbers
Lab: trigonometric form and rotations
Convert coordinates, multiply or divide complex numbers and observe rotations and scaling. Play the animation or move the slider; you can also choose a centre other than the origin.
Problem statement
Animation: rotate first, then change scale
The vector before, during and after
Initial z · R after rotation only · final z′ · animated P · centre C
In Cartesian modes drag z, or focus it and use arrows (¼ unit), Shift+arrow (1 unit) and Home (origin). The scale stays fixed while dragging.
Phases with no effect are skipped. The animation is a chosen teaching path between two points, not a time law of multiplication. At the end P coincides with z′. Drawings and decimals are approximate; Cartesian products and quotients using fractions are exact. General polar coordinates are approximate; exact values are recognized at multiples of 90°.
